The Millis team has expanded this season by adding a significant number of middle school athletes. In addition to the 30 varsity runners, Millis has 20 middle school athletes on the team. Although the Mohawks are 50 strong, middle school runners are not allowed to score points for the team during varsity meets. There is value in having the middle school athletes train and compete with the varsity team, however, it is also important for these runners to compete against other middle schoolers so Coach Conner took a different approach this season and set up a couple of "middle school only" meets. These meets will be run against other towns who have middle school track programs such as Ashland, Holliston and Milton. Tomorrow is the first middle school meet so Coach Conner hosted a team dinner at her house to prepare the girls for their first meet!
The girls are looking forward to their meet tomorrow and several have already qualified for the Massachusetts Middle School State Championship Meet that will be held on June 7th at Fitchburg State University.
