Meet Kendall!

This track season has been a little bit different from previous seasons. This season, we have a new coach, a bigger team, and a team manager. We would like to introduce Kendall Hyyti, our team manager! Kendall has been a fabulous addition to our team this season. She works extremely hard and takes her role as manager very seriously. When Kendall isn't helping Coach Conner with scorekeeping, she is the team's number one supporter and cheerleader encouraging all runners to do their best and congratulating them after races. The majority of Kendall's responsibilities as manager include "behind the scenes" projects like helping coach with last minute details, managing the team's social media and planning a large scale fundraiser that will take place in the fall. Kendall is a senior this year and we are sad to be losing her to college next fall where she will be pursuing a degree in sports management. I was able to catch up with her for a few minutes to talk about her experience as manager. Here is what she had to say:

How did you decide to become the manager for track?
I decided to become the manager of track after the cross country season came to an end. I really enjoyed being the cross country manager and wanted to continue for the indoor track season. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me as I plan on majoring in sports management in college next fall.

What is your favorite part of track?
I think the meets are probably my favorite part because I get to see how hard everyone works and I love to see when people beat their personal records.

What are some of your responsibilities as manager and how is your role different from being a captain?
The captains work directly with the team, leading warm-ups and stretching during practice. The act as the liaison between the coach and the team. When coach can't make it to practice they captains will run practice. As manager, I work more closely with coach helping with scorekeeping for our team during the meets, taking attendance on the bus before coach gets there and helping sort out last minute details with coach. I also take a lot of team photos and help in managing the team's social media (Blog, Twitter and Facebook page). This season I am also working on a fundraiser that will take place in the fall.
